2023 National Fund for sacred places grant recipient

We are thrilled to share a momentous achievement! St. Mark’s has been chosen as one of only 16 churches out of 371 applicants to receive the prestigious National Fund for Sacred Places Grant! This incredible grant, valued at $250,000, is made possible through a collaboration between Partners for Sacred Places and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Why St. Mark’s?

Our selection for this grant is a testament to the profound historical significance of our beloved St. Mark's, and it highlights our commitment to preserving this beautiful building for generations to come. As grant recipients, we are not only granted essential funding for the preservation of our building, but we will also receive invaluable technical assistance, training, and capacity-building support. Additionally, we will be granted a planning grant as we embark on our upcoming Capital Campaign.

Community and Growth

The Fund for Sacred Places not only recognizes historically significant buildings but also looks for congregations that are vibrant, thriving, and deeply connected to their neighborhood and community partners. St. Mark's stood out for its increasing facility usage and the strong partnerships we've fostered with Dreams and Visions and North Ave Mission.

How Will the Funding Be Used?

This grant is a pivotal step towards our forthcoming Capital Campaign, which will focus on vital renovations such as re-pointing the deteriorating stonework in our tower and making our building accessible by adding an elevator. The impact of this funding will extend far beyond our congregation, as we open our doors wider to serve our city and grow our church.

A Legacy of Support

In its eighth year, the National Fund has awarded over $21.5 million to 113 community-serving congregations in 39 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. This grantmaking has already resulted in an impressive $3 leveraged for every grant dollar invested in participating congregations.

This grant is especially timely as St. Mark’s embarks on new projects and partnerships to serve our city and expand our church. It is indeed a phenomenal gift that will bolster our efforts to preserve our cherished building and embrace a future filled with promise.
