We're proud to be a
Reconciling in Christ (RIC) assembly!

What is "Reconciling in Christ"?
The Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Program, which began in 1984, is a program of ReconcilingWorks for Lutheran congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries and other organizations. RIC recognizes communities that publicly welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) believers. The Reconciling in Christ roster now exceeds 450 settings.

What is St. Mark's Lutheran Church response RIC?
Gay and lesbian people have felt welcome at St. Mark's Lutheran Church for many years and in 1985 we formally declared our congregation a Reconciling in Christ church. Ours is the first congregation in the Delaware-Maryland Synod to achieve this distinction.

What is St. Mark's Statement of Welcome?
First, all are welcome at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Second, we affirm that “in Christ there is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male or female" (Galatians 2:38). Christ Jesus has made us one. As a RIC congregation, we acknowledge that this reconciliation extends to those within the LGBT community.

If all are welcome, why single out LGBT people?
Regrettably, some Lutheran churches still shun LGBT people, as well as their parents and families. As a result, many LGBT people assume they’re not welcome in any church unless told otherwise. Public alignment with the RIC Program makes it clear that a congregation is open and welcoming, as well as comforting and safe.
