Stuffing Seeds, Planting Natives, and Celebrating Rogation Day!

St. Mark's will celebrate a time-honored tradition this May as we gather to observe Rogation Sunday! This ancient practice of blessing the fields and praying for plentiful crops invites us to reflect on our relationship to creation. There will be special music and prayers to honor creation, plus an outdoor blessing of the plants around us and a special gift of something to grow at home.

Our Creation Care team, a joint project with our partners at Dreams and Visions will get to work supporting our efforts to care for creation with a seed stuffing after worship on May 8. We'll also be discussion the possibility of installing solar panels on our roof!

Then, after worship on Rogation Day, May 22, we'll roll up our sleeves to install colorful and beautiful planters in front of our building, planted up with native plants, designed by our own Kaila. We'll also tend to the pollinators we planted in tree beds last spring and make sure they're tidy, watered, and mulched up.

Be sure to bring gardening clothes, and gloves and hand tools if you have them. A hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle will also be useful.

Afterward, we'll head over to Guilford Hall, a nearby biergarden with outdoor seating for a cold drink!

Save the Date: Congregational Meeting
Save the date for St. Mark's Annual Meeting. This is a time for our congregation to come together, receive updates about where we are and where we're headed, vote on council members, and receive a budget update. Your voice is needed.

Meeting of the Congregation
Every year our congregation gathers twice annually for a Congregational Meeting. These meetings are held to ensure that congregants are informed about how St. Mark’s is moving forward as a community, and so that the Council and Pastor might hear your valuable feedback.

At the February 20th meeting, we heard updates about the state of our building, received a financial report, learned about the Vitality Teams that will soon be launching, heard an update about our application to the ARPA grant, and answered questions.

Christmas Eve Service
Celebrate Christmas with beauty and light! You are invited to rejoice with carols, candlelight and coco this Christmas Eve at St. Mark's.

At 7:30 pm on Friday, December 24 we will celebrate our traditional mass featuring a sanctuary decked in greens and poinsettias, a candlelit Gospel, and, of course, the warm musical tidings of a full choir. Such a festive liturgy offers an opportunity to rejoice in the hope of Christ born among us, even in these weary days.

Afterwards, all are welcome to partake in hot cocoa on the portico (fondly known around the office as Porticocoa!) and bring home a package of homemade cookies. Mark your calendars and be sure to invite all friends and neighbors who are seeking a worship home this holiday season.

Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat at St. Mark's has become a wonderful way to connect with the children and families of our neighborhood.  This is our 3rd annual event and it's sure to be a spooktacular good time! So, mark your calendars and spread the word, all are welcome:

Friday, October 29th 2021 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, with a rain date of the 30th.

Phantom of the Opera Screening
On October 30 2021 at 7:30 pm, the sanctuary at St. Mark’s will play host to a screening of the original silent film version of the Phantom of the Opera—complete with live organ accompaniment by Mr. Harp! Don’t miss this rousing live accompaniment to a classic tale—even Andrew Lloyd Weber would be impressed. Costumes are welcomed.
